Statistics from Connecticut’s Department of Labor showed that as of late January 2012, Darien had a work force of 9,152 people. Of those, 8,672 were employed, with 480 unemployed, yielding an unemployment rate of 5.2%, down from 5.9% at the end of 2010 and  5.8% at the end of 2009. The state unemployment rate was 7.6% as of late January 2012, down from 8.6% at the end of 2010 and 8.05% the year before.
